MAIN MILL BUILDING, FRONT VIEW

This is the south-east corner of the main mill building. The mill was built between 1880 and 1882. The building is an example of Victorian commercial architecture, incorporating popular features of the Italianate style. The building is 200 feet long and 50 feet wide. The north side of the building (far end in picture) displays more architectural ornamentation than the south side because the primary approach to the mill was from the north until 1904 when a bridge was built on the south side. A low (one-story and basement) front addition was built between 1952 and 1954. The Haw River flows directly behind and parallel to the mill. Refer to other documents available on this site for a more complete description and history of the mill building.
