MINUTES OF BUSINESS MEETINGS

1931

The original records are located at Glencoe Baptist Church. The records are handwritten and difficult to read at times. I have generally tried to be accurate in regards to the original spelling and grammer. Appreciation is extended to Glencoe Baptist Church for granting permission to use this document.


Feb 1, 1931

A called meeting of the Board of Deacons and trustees by the chairman Bro Joe Tickle. The meeting was call to order by the chairman of Trustees. The following business was transacted.

Moved and carried and ordered that we put on a campaign to raise our Dept. of $175.00. Bouth boards was present in full.

March 23, 1932 (sic)

A call meeting of the Bord of Deacons and Trustees by the chairman Bro G. L. Murray at his home. The following business was transacted.

Moved and seconed that we pay our pastor Bro T. R. Coleman $25.00 on pastor salerier.

Moved and seconded that we pay for envelopes $13.65.

Moved and seconded that commitee compose a nice letter to be mailed to each member and presented at next meeting of bord for recomendation before mailing.

Moved and seconded that we prepare a list of Delinguent members and present them at next meeting of board. Committe - C. F. Phillips, Miss Artency Murray, Chas Hurley.

Moved and seconded that Bro C. F. Phillips be alowed to place a light in small room in church.

All the board present.

April 19, 1931

The church was call in quarterly conference after preaching. Following business was transacted.

Moved and carried that the Sunday School Treasury pay $3.00 on Associational work to Bro Ira Knight of Durham.

Moved and second that we pay $3.00 on B. Y. P. U. lititure, intermediate grade.

No futher business, closing in order.

April 19, 1931

Special call meeting of the Bord of Deacons by the pastor Bro T. Rupert Coleman. The following business was trans.

The pastor made a interesting talk on the Duties of a Deacon and his responsibility to his church.

Round Table Discussion of each Deacon on church finances. Bro R. A. Wilson, Bro C. F. Phillips made interesting talks.

Bro G. L. Murray offers his resignation of chairman of Board of Deacons and Supt of Sunday School at his own request. Resignation of Bro G. L. Murray of chairman of Board Deacons and Sunday School Supt. was duly accepted by remaining board.

Moved and seconded that Bro John Allen take the Sunday and act as Supt of Bro Murray expiring term.

Moved and seconded that the Board accept the following nominations for Deacon - Bro Joe Tickle, Chas Hurley.

No further business, meeting come to close.

April 19, 1931

The church was called into conference by pastor. Vote on Bro G. L. Murray resignation as Deacon and Supt of Sunday School accepted by church full quorum.

Bro J. C. Tickle, Chas Hurley was elected Deacons to fill vacancies of old Bord.

April 25, 1931

Special meeting of Bord of Deacons called to elect a chairman. Vote taken and Bro C. F. Phillips was duly elected.

Moved and seconded that Supt of Sunday School & Treasury will furnish a written report of sunday school and church finances each month to chairman of Deacons or Pastor.

A motion by Bro Phillips seconded by Bro James Allen that a form of Election of the board of Deacons be as following. There shall be two elected for 3 years, two for 2 years & two for 1 year and thereafter 2 shall be elected each annual election for 3 years. Therefore we the Board of Deacons of Glencoe Baptist Church submit the above recomendations.

As to the following J. R. Allen be recomended as to one year, C. F. Phillips as to one year, Earnest Murray as to two years, James Allen as to two years, J. R. Tickle as to three years, Chas Hurley as to three years. So ordered by the Board of Deacons.

Moved and seconded that we elect Bro R. A. Wilson as church auditor. Motion made by Bro Joe Tickle and carried.

Moved and seconded that we pay Burlington Hardware Co. $15.49 on old debt. Bro R. A. Wilson authorized to pay the bill off from Building fund.

No further business, meeting closed.

April 26, 1931

The church was called into a short conference by our new chairman, Bro C. F. Phillips. The church accepted Bro R. A. Wilson nomination as auditor of the church. Also the election of Joe Tickle and Chas Hurley as new Deacons was approved by the church. A goodly number was present. 34 for the adoptions. Not any against.

May 17, 1931

The church was called into a short conference by the pastor Bro T. R. Coleman.

The monthly reports from the Sunday School, the Treasury & the Clerk were read for the month of April and approved by church.

May 17, 1931

After preaching service the Bord of Deacons was called together to decide when to have the series of services at this church. After discussion of the Bord it was decided on for July 5th, agreeable by pastor and the Bord, Bro Coleman doing the preaching himself.

No further business, adjourn.

May 29, 1931

A meeting of the Bord of Deacons was called togather at the home of Chas Hurley by the chairman Bro C. F. Phillips.

Bro Phillips made an interesting talk to the Bord on Brotherhood to each other. Scripture reading by the chairman. Prayer by Bro Ernest Murray. The following business was transacted.

Moved and seconded that we put on a campaign to help on our incedental debt of church. Bro R. A. Wilson was apointed as manager.

Moved and seconded that we give Bro Joe Tickle athorety to dynamite stumps in church yard. No futher business, adjourn.

June 1, 1931

A special meeting of the Board of Deacons was called together at the church by the chairman Bro C. F. Phillips. Prayer and scripture reading by Bro Phillips. The following business was transacted.

Bro A. B. Hall through Bro Ernest Murray, ask the church for a church letter. After a brief discussion, the Board decided they could not recomend the church to grant it on account of his coldness and indifirence to the church but it was moved and second and voted unnanousely that the Board do recomend to the church to grant Bro Hall a statement of dismisal from this church.

Bro R. A. Wilson presented his plans to the Board on meeting the general expense of the church which is badly in arrers at present. Each member of the Board pledging his most loyal support to assist him in any way he may suggest. No further business, adjourn.

June 7, 1931

The church was called into a short conference after the evening service by the pastor Bro T. R. Coleman, moderator. Following business:

Bro Ernest Murray, Treasury of the building fund, made his final report to the church and was approved.

The report of the Treasury, the clerk, and S. S. Sec. was approved.

Bro R. A. Wilson election as manager of the general expense fund was also approved.

Bro A. B. Hall asking church for a letter was granted him.

Then having no further business, adjourn.

June 14, 1931

The Board of Deacons were called togather by the chairman Bro C. F. Phillips to recomend some one to fill Bro Coleman's apointment as he is holding a series of services at Gibsonville. Bro Ralph Wilson was apointed and he accepted call.

July 8, 1931

At the request of Bro Joe Tickle the Board of Deacons were called togather by the chairman C. F. Phillips to settle a little fighting apprdy[?] Bro Tickle was involved in. Bro Tickle asking forgiveness. The Board forgave him, and it was put before the church and the church did likewise.

A committe was apointed to prepare the pool for Baptisism were as follows - C. F. Phillips, Chas Hurley, James Allen, John Cooke, John Allen. This committe is in force from now on to watch after pool.

July 19, 1931

The Revival services of this church were a great success there being 11 uniting with church by Baptism and 2 by statement and other conversions were made that did not unite with church. Bro T. R. Coleman doing the preaching himself Sunday evening July 19. 11 were Baptised by the Pastor. Following Baptism the Lords Supper was served. The following were Baptized

Aug 16, 1931

The Board of Deacons were called together by the chairman Bro C. F. Phillips to settle the question of rent on the pastorium. It was agreed by each member of board present to recomend to the church to give Bro Phillips his rent free to take care of the pastor and look after the church and property.

Aug 30, 1931

The Board Deacons were called at regular monthly meeting, Bro C. F. Phillips chairman.

After a brief discussion about the financial condition of the church and the mill standing it was decided not to go any further in debt to our pastor and recomend to the church that we make some special arrangement until the mill starts running again.

Sept 5, 1931

The Board of Deacons were called together by the chairman Bro C. F. Phillips. The following business transacted -

Moved and second that we pay $8.00 for envelopes that we used in 1929. Old debt overlooked.

Moved and second that we order 75 packs envelopes for comming year at 7 1/2 cents per pack $5.63.


Sept 7, 1931

A special meeting of the Board was call by the chairman Bro C. F. Phillips.

The church roll was revised by the Board and it was decided to recommend to the church to erase 19 member names from the roll. Members that take no interest or attend church & have moved from community.

Moved and second that we secure a sexton to help take care of church as we do not have one at present. Bro C. F. Phillips agrees to take the place free of charge, if the Sunday School will pay $3.00 monthly into the church treasury to help incedental expenses.

Bro Joe Tickle sugestion on placing the names of each member on a board was carried over until next meeting. No further business, adjourn.

Sept 21, 1931

The Board of Deacons were called together by the chair Bro C. F. Phillips.

Moved and second that we recomend to the church that we institute a new office to the church roll, that is a Financial Sect.

Moved and second that the Board of Deacon recomend to the church that all the teachers in the Sunday School attend the teachers training class at least twice a month.

Moved and second that we place the names of each member on a list and at the end of each month place them in the Buletin board with their amount of contribution the past month.

Miss Beatrice Rice gave her name as a canidate for Baptism. The church accepted her for Baptism in near future. No further business, adjourn.

The Board of Deacons were called together by the chairman Bro C. F. Phillips.

The financial sect. of building fund Bro Ernest Murray wanted to dispose of his old checks receipts for building pastorium. Was agreed by board to place in church library for future reference. No futher business, adjourn.

Oct 4, 1931

Report of Glencoe Baptist Church Annual Conference. After preaching service the church was called into conference by the pastor Rev. T. R. Coleman, moderator. The following business transacted.

The report of last quarterly conference read & approved by church. The report of Sunday School read & approved.

Moved and second that we pay $3.00 to the associational fund, from Sunday School treasury.

Moved and second that we place the value of church property up to $8,000 instead of $7,200.

Bro R. A. Wilson was re elected as church auditor.

Moved and second that we do not help support a field worker at present, but if we get financial able we will do all we can to assist in the work.

Moved and second that we pay $3.00 to the association minutes.

Moved and second that we errace 19 names of Delinquint members from the church roll.

The church letter to our association was read and approved.

Moved and second that we appoint a denominational committe to meet at Haw River in future were as follow C. F. Phillips, C. H. Hurley, R. A. Wilson, Marvin Smith, Mrs Bessie Morene, Miss Lula Wilson, Miss Fay Murray.

The following names were voted on by the church in annual conference to be errased from the church roll as they were not in fellowship because of their delinquency and other causes as stated below.

Delinquint - Vergil Ashworth, Pheoby Blanchard, C. F. Blanchard, Mr & Mrs J. W. Brooks, Beulah Burch, Mrs John Cole, J. W. Dickens, Julious Dickerson, Jake Foust, Mrs John Williams, Raymond King, R. L. Payne, Mable Payne, Yerby Payne, Mr & Mrs Henry Warren.

Jessie Faucette has joined Hope Dale Christian church.

Miss Docia Lineberry stated to the Board of Deacons that she was ashamed to own she belonged to the church and was ashamed to let peole know she was a member of the church.

This leaves a total membership of 117 members.


Nov 15, 1931 (Sun morn)

The church was called into a brief conference by the pastor T. Rupert Coleman as moderator. The question was brought up about painting the church. Motion was made to nominate the following as a Paint Committee - J. R. Rascoe as chairman, R. A. Wilson, C. F. Phillips. The motion was carried by a rising vote. The above committe was to canvass the church membership for funds to paint the church. Motion was carried. Motion was made to adjourn.

The Board of deacons were called together by the Chairman of the Board Bro C. F. Phillips. Scripture reading by our Pastor. Prayer by the chairman. The following business was transacted.

A brief discussion by each member of board on coming years work.

Moved & seconded that the sunday school treasury be relieved of paying $3.00 monthly to the church treasury.

Moved & seconded that Bro C. F. Phillips be allowed to put a pump in the well at the pastorium at his own expense.

Moved and seconded that adopt the Budget system for this years work in the church fanance.

Our pastor making us a good talk on the years work. No further business. Moved that we adjourn.

Church called in conference by T. R. Coleman. The above business was put before the church & adopted by a majority of votes.


Dec 30, 1931

After prayer meeting Bro. Ernest Murray called the Deacons together at the request of Bro. G. L. Murray asked the church to grant him a letter. After discussions it was moved and carried that we recomend to the church that we give him a certificate of dismission at his request.
