Pastor Buck was with us at our prayer meeting service. He announced that the pastor that has been called to serve this field has accepted and would begin his services with the Hocutt Memorial Church May 18", and that he would begin his work with us May 25".
Pastor Buck spoke with tender feelings of the pleasant relations that had existed since January 1st, 1913 and which had made possible the achievments in building missions and finances. He commented briefly on John 15:1-10. In closing he announced that he would preach his farewell sermon next Sunday, May 11", at 3.00 p.m.
The church gathered in Conference with Pastor Buck in the chair. It was moved and carried that two additional deacons be elected. A motion was made nominating C. F. Phillips and G. L. Murray. Upon vote these two were elected unanimously.

This was the regular preaching Appointment and pastor Buck was with us as usual. After the singing a hymn our pastor read for his Scripture lesson the 13th Chapter of 1st Corinthians. Then just preceeding his Sermon he read his resignation to take effect at once, this closing the longest pastorate in the history of our church. He took for his parting text II Corinthians 13:11-14, Emphasizing the three divisions (I.) The Exhortations 1. the spirit to cultiviate "rejoice" which be the rendering, instead of "farwell." 2. the ideal to cherisg perfection - "be perfect". 3. the Fellowship to pastor "be of one mind" 4. the life to live "peacefull" lives in peace. (II.) The Encouragement - "the God of love and peace shall be with you". (III.) The parting Salutations - Verse 14.
Before pronouncing the benediction it was suggested that we formally extend our invitation to Rev Walter H. Dodd who has acepted the call of the Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church to serve as our pastor beginning his services May 10" at a sallary payable at the rate of $250.00 per year untill January 1st 1920 under the following arrangement - this church to pay at the rate of $150 per year ($12.50 per month) and the N. C. Baptist Sate Convention and the Mt Zion Baptist Association $100.00 (each $50.00 per year as agreed).
Decon G. L. Murray called the church to order and the motion being duly moved and Seconded that we Extend the call with above understanding. The vote was unanimous that he become our pastor.
After Singing "God be with you till we meet again" the benediction was pronounced and the longest and most properous pastorate in our history came to an end amid tears and feelings of deep regret that the providential leadings of God made the change necessary.
