In 1909 a wooden dam on a cement foundation replaced the original log and stone dam across the Haw River above the mill. This is probably the project that this letter refers to. The wooden dam was subject to storm and flood damage and was eventually replaced by a reinforced concrete dam in 1951. Click HERE for pictures of the 1909 dam and the new 1951 dam.
